AA3.0

Some little things and changes we can expect in the upcoming version of 3.0 It is said to become more realistic than ever before, but yeah,... lets see for ourselves hey!? ;) Here some things to expect, short and briefly...interviews from the Dev Team. For a much better view of what to expect,... click the following link.

"The AA3 platform will be an entirely new game, built from the ground up using Epic Game’s Unreal Engine 3. This means we’re creating everything from scratch - all new assets, all new missions, all new sounds, and all new weapons."

"Players will be creating a new player account for AA3; however, we’re pursuing ways to tie in your original AA2 account/character, such as giving special AA3 achievements to veteran AA players with confirmed AA2 accounts."

Honor Count System

"Honor will not be a singular score in 30, it will be an aggregate of several different types of scoring." The old 2.0 Account will be deleted!? So we lose our honors :(

“Yeah, yeah I do think players care about persistent scores and achievements. The phenomenon was well established in the AA community a long time ago; look at how many people are concerned about their AAO tracker stats. Look at the effect that achievements and gamer points have had in the console market, frankly, in my opinion it was the best new feature of all the next gen consoles. The fact that Sony is essentially copying that feature with their “trophies” is proof of it’s success and it’s not just the console market that has changed because of it. Look at what happens with each new release for Team Fortress 2, when Valve releases new achievements for a class go into a server and see how many people are playing the newly augmented class. So maybe you don’t care about it personally, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an interest out there for a persistent score.”

Sound & Effects
"I can tell you in 3.x they are based off of actual recordings. We’ve spent time in the field on several different trips to capture weapon fire, impact sounds, the mechanical sound of weapons being manipulated (magazines being inserted & removed etc….) and even explosions. Luckily we haven’t lost any gear yet but that’s not for lack of trying."

FASCAM, mines
"Like many other things it's not a day 1 feature but very well may show up in the roadmap. It would allow the introduction of an engineer role as an important part of battlefield preparation who would also be able to clear mines deployed by the enemy." (click 4 more info)

Bullet Drops
“That was true in 2.x, it will no longer be true in 3.0. In the next version, the bullet actually originates at the barrel of the weapon. And it has real ballistics, it’s not a “laser beam” shot.”

Melee Attacks
"Melee, on the other hand, is something that could make it in game. The “reload” dance (bunny-hopping) is kind of silly, you’d definitely reach out and touch somebody with the butt of the gun instead of moving around waiting for the reload anim to finish."

Mortar Attacks
"Mortars is something we have talked about. In fact we have a working prototype.
With weapons it all depends on what the Army wants…you could see them in a future release though."

Medics
"Medic functionality in America's Army 3.0 will be completely redesigned. Hence these problems shouldn't be applicable."

No Jumping
"Jumping as you know it in AA2 will not exist anymore. Instead there will be support for vaulting and/or mantleing. Vaulting = jumping over, Mantleing = getting on top of (mounting, climbing). 'Bunny-Hopping will become history, finally!!!"

Thanks for these explanations Ray ! It's a nice work of summary!

I hope we'll be able to test the new AA version soon, even if we lose our honor points... Snif... more than 2 years of work.....
